Safety Data Sheets

Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are detailed documents prepared by the manufacturer or importer of a hazardous chemical. They contain information on the physical and chemical properties of the product and provide useful information such as flash point, toxicity, procedures for spills and leaks, and storage guidelines.

SDSs are required under the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard for certain items or chemicals used in the workplace. The information in the document:

Aids in the selection fo safe products
Help you understand potential health and physical hazards of a chemical
Describes how to respond effectively to exposure situations

Exemption Letters

Not all materials require SDSs and may be exempt from this requirement if they meet the definition of “Article” in the Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 190. 1200(b)(v)). For Barnes products that meet the Article definition, see exception letters below.
